The Anne Frank Trust UK is honoured to work with Hisa Haroon-Iqbal OBE from the Muslim community. With Islamophobia rising significantly, on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we commit to redouble our efforts to build a world free from prejudice and discrimination. We are pleased to have spoken to Hifsa about her important work.

"My community work has spanned the political, social and religious spectrum at local, regional and national level. I have  made wide ranging contributions to the voluntary sector and community organisations including  community development work with homeless shelters, health, cancer charities and multi-faith organisations, to regional working with education and police and at a more national and strategic board level with government and national charities. In particular, I have worked in community and inter-faith relations for nearly three decades. I have worked in counter-terrorism, with young people in schools, colleges, universities. It is working with young people that I find particularly rewarding which is why 12 months ago I set up my own training and consultancy company. This has allowed me to work with schools and colleges up and down the country and most recently with the Anne Frank Trust and our Ambassadors.

Like most people, I am delighted to see the back of 2023. It has proved to be a very difficult year on so many levels. Sadly, the events in the Middle East do not appear to show any signs of easing and each day brings more death, more destruction and indescribable horrors unleased on civilians.  I find this heart-breaking.

Sadly, we have also seen how the events in Israel and Palestine have impacted our Jewish and Muslim communities with rising levels of both anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hatred in the UK. It is especially at times like this, that the work of organisations such as Anne Frank Trust become imperative. We need to be working with our young people, educating them about how hate is a destructive force. Unfortunately the “never again” is unfolding in plain sight and we all have a moral duty in ensuring that “never again” a reality for all people. To quote Anne Frank “nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world”."
