The Anne Frank Trust Annual Lunch, now in its sixteenth year, is held every January during the week of Holocaust Memorial Day. It serves as a focus of remembrance for victims of persecution over the last century and a half.
The event provides an opportunity for supporters of the Anne Frank Trust to find out about the work we do to reduce prejudice and discrimination and hear directly from the young people we work with on how our programmes have made a difference to their lives. Each year at the Annual Lunch, we invite our Anne Frank Ambassadors and a high profile speaker to address the impact of prejudice on society at large and the power of education in combating this. A significant part of proceedings is a poignant candle lighting ceremony to honour the victims of persecution, hatred and genocide.
Last year, we were joined by more than 500 of our generous supporters, who helped us raise £498,000, making it the most successful Annual Lunch to date. In 2019, BBC journalist and political correspondent Jo Coburn will be compering the event and our guest speaker will be James O’Brien: journalist, broadcaster and author. James’s daily LBC show is the inspiration behind his recent best-selling book: How To Be Right. He is also a regular presenter of BBC’s Newsnight, and hosts Unfiltered with James O’Brien, a podcast featuring guests from the worlds of politics, entertainment, activism and the media.
