The Anne Frank Trust
Annual Lunch 2020
Thursday 23rd January
London Hilton on Park Lane,
12 noon – 2.30pm
Dame Esther Rantzen
Held on 23 January at the Hilton, Park Lane our 18th Annual Lunch to mark Holocaust Memorial Day this year commemorated too the 75th anniversaries both of the liberation of Auschwitz – where the Frank family were incarcerated – and of the death of Anne Frank herself, in Bergen Belsen in February 1945.
Around 450 guests joined us for what was a moving and inspiring event. Hosted again by BBC journalist Jo Coburn, we heard from special guest speaker Dame Esther Rantzen, and two of our Anne Frank Ambassadors; Umama and Maria.
Dame Esther shared the experience of reuniting Sir Nicholas Winton – who arranged the safe transport of hundreds of children out of Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II – with just some of the 669 children he rescued from the Nazis. Following impressive speeches from Umama and Maria she commented: “If ever I saw a way of learning from history, it was hearing from our Anne Frank Ambassadors today.”
Next year’s Annual Lunch to mark Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 21.01.21.
